According to the National Association of Professional Background Screeners, 96 percent of companies order background checks on at least some employees. Clearly, most businesses understand the importance of properly vetting new hires to ensure they have the necessary qualifications and will be a good moral fit with the company’s culture. However, once you’ve brought an employee on board, you might feel you’re done.
Instead, it’s a good idea to conduct rolling background checks on your employees. These must still be done within the confines of the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and employees need to be made aware that they are occurring. However, following up once in awhile is a great way to verify that nothing untoward has happened since you brought an employee on board. You never really know what your staff is up to after hours unless you conduct a background check, so a rolling model is a great way to stay on top of all employees in a fair and predictable manner.
